1. Loyola College

Loyola College, a Catholic Minority Institution, was founded by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1925, with the primary objective of providing University Education in a Christian atmosphere for deserving students irrespective of caste and creed. It started functioning in July 1925 with just 75 students on the rolls in three undergraduate courses of Mathematics, History and Economics.Loyola College, though affiliated to University of Madras, became autonomous in July 1978. It is autonomous, in the sense that it is empowered to frame its own course of studies and adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The University degrees will be conferred on the students passing the examinations conducted by the college.


2. Agurchand Manmull Jain College

In 1952 the Agurchand Manmull Jain College was established by the magnanimity and munificence of Padmasri Mohanmulji Chordia through the Sri.S.S.Jain Educational Society, at the Inspiration of her Holiness Shri.Sayar Kanwarji Maharaj.Shri.Sri Prakasa,the then Governor of Madras Presidency, performed the auspicious task of inauguration on the 25th of June 1952 at the Jain Boarding Home Premises in Madley Road,T.Nagar.The College got shifted to its new campus in Meenambakkam in 1954.That was indeed a very unique occasion in which two great educationists, late Dr. S.Radhakrishnan(the then Vice-President of India) and late Dr.A.Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras graced with their presence. The Former laying the foundation stone and the latter presiding over the function.


3. Alpha Arts & Science College



Alpha is the reality of a long cherished dream of Late M G Thomas- Dr. Grace George's father , an eminent educationist with a great vision; one who ensured that everything he did was consigned to posterity thereby making certain that generation of students would reap the fruits of his labour. The legacy was nurtured by Dr. Grace George's husband, late N George a Chartered Secretary by profession. The institution progressed with his innovative ideas. After the demise of her husband in 1990, the destiny of Alpha rested with Dr Grace George, a person who inherited the fierce passion and foresight of her father.


4. Chellammal Women's College


Chellammal Women's College is named after Chellammal, also known as Mylai Chellammal.Born in1867 in Palatalization (now Pattipulam) near Thiruporur, she hailed from an ordinary peasant family. Her marriage to Mylai Vadamalai Anagram brought her wealth and comfort .Vadamalai Gramani himself was coerced into forsaking a saintly life at Thirukazhukundram and after his marriage to Chellammal became a successful businessman on account of his hard work. The couple was not blessed with any issue. Vadamalai Gramani passed away on July31, 1911 Inspired by her husband's model life and principles, Mylai Chellammal decided to donate his hard earned wealth and property wisely and usefully. In November 1913, four wills were made to this effect by her.


5. Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women

Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women was founded in the loving memory of the Late Chief Minister Bharat Ratna Dr. MGR and his beloved wife Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who championed the cause of women's education, believing true empowerment of woman can be obtained only through education and economic independence. For women to scale new heights and explore new territories Dr. MGR Janaki college offers innumerable job oriented courses. To translate their dreams into reality, the college is equipped with dedicated staff and infrastructure par excellence.


6. Government College of Fine Arts


Mamallapuram occupies a prominent place in the history of sculpture. It is a museum for showcasing Indian rock architecture. It has bas-relief. monoliths and cave temples in one place. The Government College of Architecture and Sculpture was established in Mamallapuram in 1957. Four-Year Degree Courses are offered in this College from 2000-2001. B.Tech in Traditional Architecture, B.F.A in Traditional Sculpture and B.F.A in Traditional Drawing and Painting are offered. Considering the Development of this Institute a Computer Centre, a separate building for Library, a sculpture part, a mega sculptural studio for sculptors and a school for tourists enjoyment are established.



7. D.G Vaishnav College

Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, the prominent managing body of D.G Vaishnav College, in its silver jubilee year, collaborated with Dewan Bahadur M. O. Parthasarathy Iyengar Charities for the establishment of this women’s college in 1992, a dream realisation and the result of the determination and sustained efforts of the two trusts. Both these organisations have eminent industrialists, administrators and people committed to the cause of women’s education. M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women also has the distinction of being one of the youngest colleges in the country to have been granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission and the University of Madras.

Meenakshi College for Women is a women's college in Kodambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The college is affiliated to University of Madras. Courses offered include BSc, MSc and B.Com.


9. Pachaiyappa's College


Pachaiyappa's College, Chennai is the offspring of a superlative act of private philanthropy of its progenitor, Pachaiyappa Mudaliar, who had made himself a master financier and merchant prince when he was just 22 years old. Around this age many of us are in the threshold of our collegiate educational career. We must be inspired and motivated by the preciousness and large-heartedness of the benevolent founder. This College had its genesis in the famous Will of Pachaiyappa Mudaliar. Pachaiyappa was born, posthumously in 1754, of poor parents. He grew up in poverty and rose by his own force of character to be the most opulent man of his time but who finally bequeathed all his wealth for the service of God and humanity.

The advent of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is the starting point of the renaissance in india. Swami Vivekananda, the illustrious disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, gave the first impetus to it by starting the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897. The Mission is endeavouring to realize its aims through its centres numbering one hundred and seventy one in India and abroad. The Chennai centre is one of the oldest having been started in 1897. The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College is a unit of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Chennai, which is a branch centre of Ramakrishna Math and Mission Belur Mathin West Bengal. It occupies a place of pre-eminence among the educational activities of the Mission in India. It was formally opened on 21th June 1946. The Evening College was started in 1974.
